Tania Shinohara, APRN-FNP

Tania Shinohara, FNP-C, chose to become a Family Nurse Practitioner not because of what she would be doing but because of who she would be helping. That means that all the patients of Palestine Regional Medical Group, from infants to children, and adults to the elderly, have access to her incredible experience and expertise.

Shinohara received her Nursing degree from Old Dominion University before serving in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps at Norfolk, Virginia. She later returned to school to earn her Master of Business Administration, also from Old Dominion, and her Masters in Nursing from Marymount University.

As an RN and Nurse Practitioner, Shinohara has worked in Public Health, in private pediatric practice, in family medicine, as well as urgent care and emergency department settings. Her career brought her to Texas in 2011, and she's been serving the residents of Palestine and the surrounding areas since 2022, providing comprehensive physical assessment, diagnosis, management, and treatment for patients of all ages.

Shinohara has been able to help people in so many different areas because she sees what she does as more than treatment. "I try to be open and friendly and try my best to get to know them as a person," Shinohara says. "Because they are more than just patients: they are my partners. I want them to understand that we are going to work together to get then as healthy as they can be - whether that means back to school, back to playing with the grandkids, or anywhere in between."

In person, Shinohara is friendly and outgoing. She loves to talk with her patients and build a provider-patient relationship that leads to the best outcomes for her patients. That outlook has helped her feel right at home at PRMG and the Walk-In Clinic.

"I love smaller towns," Shinohara says. "I love the atmosphere and the people - they're just good folks. I moved here from Houston and I love our life here."

Shinohara and her husband have a little ranch outside town, where she keeps some animals - chickens, horses, and lots of dogs - and loves to work in her big flower and vegetable gardens. With her husband, they have five kids and 12 grandchildren.

She sees her purpose in providing care as seeing patients who are sick or injured and getting them feeling better as soon as she can. "There is a need for this kind of care in this community," Shinohara says. "It's about meeting people with the care they need, right where they are. We are here for you."
