Family Medicine physician Mariam Hussain, M.D., Has always felt great fulfilment from helping the public and her community, and a career in healthcare is allowing her to do that in a very direct and meaningful way. Seeing the immediate impact that compassionate and informed care can have on individuals and families is what inspired her to pursue a career in medicine – and family medicine in particular. 

“I chose Family Medicine because I truly enjoy building lasting relationships with patients and their families,” says Dr. Hussain. “It’s incredibly rewarding to care for individuals at every stage of life and to support continuity of care, from birth onward. I love the variety and long-term relationships. No two days are the same, and I get to be part of so many important moments in people’s lives.”

That lifelong care is built with a focus on creating meaningful partnerships with her patients. Dr. Hussain believes health care works best when it's a collaborative process—patients and providers working together to make informed decisions tailored to the individual’s needs and lifestyle.

“Educating patients is one of the most rewarding parts of my work,” explains Dr. Hussain. “I enjoy helping patients understand how various factors – like lifestyle, nutrition, and genetics – can impact their health so they feel empowered in managing their well-being.”

She focuses on emphasizing preventive care, routine screenings, lifestyle modifications, and patient education, working closely with each patient to create realistic and personalized health goals. Dr. Hussain stays current with the latest medical research and guidelines and continuously evaluates her practice to ensure it is patient-centered, inclusive, and evidence-based.

“My goal is to always try to grow and develop for the good of my patients,” says Dr. Hussain. “I welcome feedback to keep improving, and I want the same for my patients. I want them to be open, to ask questions, and to stay engaged in their own care. The more you understand your health, the better equipped you are to make decisions that support it!”

That communication between patient and provider is a two-way street. Dr. Hussain is devoted to listening – really listening - to the concerns, values, and goals of every patient. Building trust takes time, and she is committed to being present and consistent throughout their care journey.

“Many patients are surprised, at first, by how much I focus on education and collaboration,” Dr. Hussain says. “I don’t just give medical advice – I take the time to explain, discuss, and tailor it to each individual.”

Dr. Hussain completed her undergraduate studies at the University of North Texas in Denton, medical school in Poland at the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, and her family medicine residency in El Paso at Texas Tech HSC El Paso - Transmountain campus. She speaks English, Urdu/Hindi and outside of work, she enjoys spending quality time with her family, traveling, and exploring new cuisines. She also loves reading and staying active in her community through local events and volunteer work.
